1. Persistent Ear Pain
One of the most recognizable signs of an ear infection is pain. This may present as a dull ache, sharp sting, or throbbing sensation in one or both ears. The pain may worsen when lying down, chewing, or swallowing. In some cases, it may radiate to the jaw or neck.
Why it happens: The pain is typically caused by inflammation and fluid buildup behind the eardrum, putting pressure on surrounding tissues.
