Former New Jersey Mayor Arrested Following Investigation Involving a Minor

Andrew LaBruno, a former mayor of Dumont, New Jersey, and a recent Democratic candidate for the state assembly, was arrested after authorities accused him of engaging in criminal behavior involving a minor he had met online. LaBruno is also a police sergeant with the Jersey City Police Department.

According to officials, the investigation began after police were called to a home where they found the victim showing signs of distress. Authorities say they collected enough evidence to take LaBruno into custody, including the victim’s account, statements allegedly made by LaBruno at the scene, and additional physical evidence gathered by investigators.

Following his arrest, LaBruno was charged with several serious offenses related to the protection and safety of minors. He is currently being held without bail at the Bergen County jail and is expected to appear in Superior Court in Hackensack.

LaBruno has a long history in public service. He served as Dumont’s mayor, has been a police officer since 2005, and has participated in community organizations and charitable activities. He also ran for a seat in New Jersey’s 39th legislative district earlier this month but was not elected.

Authorities have confirmed that he has been suspended from his police duties without pay while the case proceeds.
