CNN data analyst Harry Enten said new polling shows President Donald Trump maintains overwhelming support among his core Make America Great Again base, arguing the numbers leave little room for doubt.
Enten cited an NBC News poll showing Trump with a 100% approval rating among MAGA supporters during an appearance on CNN News Central. He said the figure was one of those rare results that immediately stands out.
“Sometimes you look at the polling data, and there are numbers that just jump off the screen at you,” Enten said. “And this is one of those,” he said.
He compared Trump’s approval among MAGA voters to the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only NFL team to complete a perfect season and win the Super Bowl. Enten said the data shows near-total alignment within that segment of the Republican base.
“Now, there are some Republicans who disapprove of Donald John Trump, but they are not members of the Make America Great Again movement,” Enten said. “The bottom line is this: if you are a member of MAGA, you approve of Donald Trump,” he said.
CNN anchor Sara Sidner noted that some pro-Trump commentators have criticized recent military action against Iran. While she did not name specific individuals, critics have included Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly.
Sidner asked whether there are signs that support for Trump within MAGA is weakening compared to 2024. Enten said the data does not show any erosion.
“That 100% that Donald Trump has among MAGA GOP, that is not an artifact of MAGA shrinking,” Enten said. “It’s just an indication of how strong Donald Trump’s grip is on that MAGA base,” he said.
Enten pointed to data showing that approximately 30% of Americans now identify with the MAGA movement, up from 28% in November 2024. He said the increase suggests the base is growing rather than contracting.
His comments followed a report the previous day in which he said support for Trump’s military action against Iran remains high among Republican voters. Enten described Operation Epic Fury as widely supported within the GOP base.
Polling cited by Enten included data from CNN and NBC, as well as a Quinnipiac University poll showing 85% of Republicans support military action against Iran. A YouGov-Economist poll found that 91% of MAGA voters support the effort.
Some high-profile Trump allies have publicly criticized the operation, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. However, polling data continues to show strong backing for Trump’s policies among his core supporters.
In February, Enten delivered another uncomfortable dose of reality to Democrats, warning that the “Make America Great Again” movement will not fade when President Donald Trump eventually leaves office. In a segment with anchor Sara Sidner, Enten said polling data shows the MAGA base remains as energized and dominant within the Republican Party as ever — and is poised to outlast its founder.
During the exchange, Sidner asked Enten how much influence the Make America Great Again movement has on the GOP over the long term. Enten didn’t hesitate. “Yeah, over the long run,” he began. “That’s what I think is so important here. It’s not just about Donald Trump. It’s about the Make America Great Again movement. That’s what we’re talking about.”
