Ellen DeGeneres show star dies after battle with cancer Show Star Tayt Andersen Passes Away at 19 After Lifelong Health Battles

Tayt Andersen, a young man who touched millions of hearts as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has died at the age of 19 following a long and courageous fight with cancer and a severe congenital heart condition. His family confirmed his passing on September 26, 2025.

Born with only the right side of his heart, Tayt faced extraordinary challenges from the very beginning. By age nine, he had undergone 12 surgeries. At ten years old, he received a heart transplant, a procedure that gave him new hope but also led to post-transplant lymphoma during his teen years. In 2024, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer, which later spread to his spine, pelvis, chest, and neck. Despite these hardships, Tayt continued to inspire all who knew his story.

Doctors originally said he would not survive past three months, yet Tayt lived nearly two decades filled with love, laughter, and courage. His family shared through a heartfelt tribute: “While our souls feel shattered and lost by this unimaginable grief, we are so thankful that Tayt is finally free. No more pain, no more appointments, no more treatments.”

From Ellen’s “Boyfriend” to Global Inspiration

Tayt’s journey into the spotlight began in 2013 when he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at just seven years old. Ellen affectionately called him her “only boyfriend,” a sweet bond that brought him back on the show multiple times. Ellen supported Tayt and his family with encouragement, gifts, and even checks that helped during tough times.

His mother, Chrissy Becker, recalled how hospital visits were often scheduled around Ellen’s show. Doctors and nurses even paused treatments so he could watch, knowing how much joy it gave him. In 2015, Tayt returned to the show to announce that he had received his new heart, a moment that moved audiences worldwide.

Tayt also found comfort in Ellen’s beloved character Dory from Finding Nemo, adopting her famous mantra “just keep swimming” as his personal motto during treatment. His resilience, spirit, and ever-present smile became symbols of hope for families facing similar struggles.

A Life That Defied the Odds

Though his health battles were relentless, Tayt lived a full life—graduating high school, traveling, and inspiring countless people with his kindness and strength. His story is a powerful reminder that life is not defined by years but by the love and courage we share with others.
