Euphoria creator makes eye-watering donation to Eric Dane’s GoFundMe after paying tribute to ‘dear friend’

Sam Levinson, creator of Euphoria, has donated $27,000 to a GoFundMe established to support the family of Eric Dane following his passing at age 53. The gesture reflects the close bond formed during their time working together on the acclaimed HBO series.

Dane, widely recognized for his role as Cal Jacobs, died just ten months after publicly sharing his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His illness progressed over the following year, during which he became an advocate for awareness and research surrounding the condition.

In a statement, Dane’s family said he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones, including his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia. They described him as a devoted father who deeply valued family life and remained grateful for the support he received from fans.

Levinson shared a tribute expressing deep sorrow, calling Dane not only a valued collaborator but also a close friend. He said Dane brought warmth, humor, and dedication to every project, leaving a lasting impact on colleagues and audiences alike.

The fundraiser, organized by close friends, aims to provide long-term financial support for Dane’s teenage daughters. Contributions from fans, industry figures, and supporters have steadily increased since the campaign launched.

As of the latest update, the fundraiser has raised approximately $136,000 toward its $250,000 goal. Organizers emphasized that the campaign reflects the community Dane built through his work and personal connections.

ALS is a progressive neurological condition affecting motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and increasing difficulty with movement, speech, and breathing. While the exact causes remain under study, ongoing research continues to seek improved treatments and outcomes.

Supporters say Dane’s legacy extends beyond his performances. Through advocacy, personal strength, and the care shown by those around him, tributes like Levinson’s donation highlight how communities come together to support families during loss and honor a life remembered.
