I Called the Police After Hearing Scratching Outside My Window — Then the Dispatcher Revealed Something Unsettling

A strange scraping sound pulled me out of sleep just after three in the morning. I sat up, listening carefully, as the noise seemed to come from directly outside my bedroom window. Living alone since my husband passed away two years earlier, I immediately felt uneasy. I reached for my phone and called the county dispatcher, hoping someone could check the property. But before I could finish explaining what I had heard, the dispatcher interrupted me with an unexpected question. Had I called them about the same situation just fifteen minutes earlier?

I told him this was my first call, but his response made my hands tremble. Someone had already contacted the police using my full name and home address, describing a person outside my bedroom window. The call had reportedly come from inside my house. I explained that nobody else lived with me, and the dispatcher instructed me to stay in my bedroom until officers arrived. When two officers finally reached my front porch, they asked permission to search the property. I agreed immediately, but what they discovered beneath my bedroom window raised even more questions.

The officers searched every room, checked the doors, and inspected the windows. Nothing appeared disturbed, and there were no obvious signs that anyone had entered the house. However, outside, one officer discovered a set of small footprints beneath my bedroom window. They continued toward the sidewalk before disappearing. The earlier emergency call had been recorded at 2:47 a.m., and investigators documented the details before leaving. They promised additional patrols, but I was still unsettled. After securing the doors, I called my daughter, who lived three states away. I explained everything, expecting reassurance. Instead, she told me something I couldn’t easily dismiss: she had dreamed about our old family home that very night. In the dream, she was standing outside in the side yard, staring directly toward my bedroom window, convinced something was wrong.

I asked my daughter exactly when she had awakened from the dream. She paused before answering that it had been shortly before three in the morning. The timing immediately caught my attention because the mysterious police call had been placed at 2:47 a.m. She insisted she had not contacted the authorities, and neither of us could explain how someone had used my identity and address. I later provided the information to the police so they could review the original call and investigate the footprints. Although the officers had found no evidence of forced entry, I arranged additional security around the property and made sure my daughter knew what had happened. One question continued to trouble me long after that night: if neither of us had made the first call, who had been inside my home using my name to ask for help?
