INDIA RAIDS SOROS-BACKED GROUPS OVER FOREIGN FUNDING SCANDAL

India’s Enforcement Directorate has conducted raids on eight Bengaluru offices connected to George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) and the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF). The action is part of an investigation into alleged violations of foreign funding regulations.

Authorities claim that significant sums were illegally channeled into Indian NGOs and private companies. These funds were reportedly disguised as fake consultancy fees and foreign direct investments.

This method is alleged to have been used to circumvent restrictions on foreign donations that were strengthened in 2016. One entity under close scrutiny is Aspada Investments Pvt Ltd, which has been linked to Soros’ network in India.

The raids reflect the Indian government’s broader effort to tighten oversight of foreign-funded organizations operating within the country. Officials argue that such actions are necessary to ensure legal and financial transparency.

However, critics suggest that these investigations may be influenced by political motivations. They express concern over the targeting of certain international groups.

As of now, the Open Society Foundations and the Soros Economic Development Fund have not issued any public response to the raids or the allegations. The investigation remains ongoing.
