Republican lawmakers have introduced efforts to impeach U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg, following reports that he approved non-disclosure orders connected to the Justice Department’s “Arctic Frost” investigation.
The “Arctic Frost” probe, led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, reportedly involved 197 subpoenas targeting individuals and organizations linked to Republican political groups. Some of these subpoenas requested data from telecom companies related to Republican lawmakers. According to multiple news outlets, the disclosure orders signed by Boasberg and Judge Beryl Howell temporarily barred those companies from informing the affected lawmakers.
Representative Brandon Gill (R-Texas) announced that he has drafted articles of impeachment against Judge Boasberg, citing concerns over the scope of the subpoenas and judicial overreach. Representative Byron Donalds (R-Florida) has also expressed support for impeachment proceedings.
Judge Boasberg, appointed by former President Barack Obama, currently serves as Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. He has previously faced criticism from some Republican officials for rulings they viewed as unfavorable to Trump-era policies.
A Rasmussen Reports survey, cited by several news outlets including Just the News, found that 67% of likely U.S. voters consider the “Arctic Frost” matter a serious issue.
At this stage, impeachment proceedings remain at the proposal stage, and no formal House or Senate action has yet been taken against Judge Boasberg.
