A boating tragedy in Biscayne Bay on July 28, 2025, claimed the lives of 13-year-old Erin Victoria Ko Han and 7-year-old Mila Yankelevich, leaving their families shattered. Erin’s father, Pil Jye Ko, spoke to the press through tears, recalling her final words: “See you later, Daddy and Mommy.” She never came home.
The 17-foot sailboat carrying Erin, Mila, and four others was struck by a 60-foot barge. Both girls drowned, while two other children remain in critical condition. “She was all we had,” Pil said of his only daughter, describing her as a bright student who spoke three languages and was learning a fourth.
Erin’s family had moved from Chile to Miami just months earlier. Her school in Chile remembered her warmth and commitment, while the Chilean Consulate in Miami expressed deep condolences. Mila, granddaughter of famed producer Cris Morena, had joined the same youth sailing program.
Through his grief, Pil called for justice: “Two girls are gone, and two other children are in critical condition. This can’t happen.” With the support of his community, he vowed to fight for answers — so no other family has to live through the nightmare of losing a child so suddenly and tragically.
